Sopa and Pipa cause Industry black out
There is a shift in power which is growing in momentum. Traditional powerhouses in the film and music industry are losing their grip and so lobby for legislation to TRY TO REGAIN IT. Without taking a political line, the internet is a free area, free to trade and free to move, the world may be a worse or better place for it, who can say..... Legislation proposals like this will get the backs up of the players in the internet and so Wikipedia and Wordpress to name a few decided to block and blank page views as a protest to the The Stop Online Piracy Act (Sopa) and Protect Intellectual Property Act (Pipa)acts. As a result 8 lawmakers retracted their support of the bills and volume speaks in words which of course wiki' can do with its support for free education at your fingertips.
We do live controlled lives, i am sure most would agree that downloading free stuff which should be paid for is not right, but to propose a bill that hampers all to get back at a few is also wrong. It is up to the owners of rights of films/music to make their own prosecutions against individuals, use the internet to spread the word, things should improve for them. Legislation of this type will not gain support on the internet and business in general is changing fast and adapting to a free market which it has not seen for centuries. Alot of these old agreements and laws were made by an elite few, we all now have a choice and we hope choice remains.
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg deemed the occasion worthy enough to post his first tweet in almost three years. "Tell your congressmen you want them to be pro-internet,We can't let poorly thought out laws get in the way of the internet's development. Facebook opposes Sopa and Pipa, and we will continue to oppose any laws that will hurt the internet".
Google, which urged its US visitors to sign a petition against the bills, said more than 4.5 million signatures had been gathered.
