SoOS alumni facebook fans page
As part of ongoing strategy with The Sharper Image, SoOS, the alumni for Seaford College launched both facebook and twitter feeds on their site after a member poll showed 82% of members thought that would be a good idea. In 24 hours over 50 fans were registered and so further development of the facebook area is possible.
Somewhat late you may say ...but regular business's work in different ways to a membership structure who requires careful thought and planning as to how members will react and use social media across a mix of cultures and ages. A fair example would be the dreaded subject of death. Although we hear of tweets now being used to end marriages (generally to the tweet audience as well as the partner !) to announce the passing of an old chum by tweet or a poke on facebook needs careful handling.
There are many members that simply dont like certain mediums and will not, out of principal, use those mediums. The Sharper Image monitor closely the trends and views of browsers to highlight patterns. Response patterns are e-signals (if you ever did that body language course -crossed legs and arms not good etc etc !) to guage desire and need.
'Development of a community' would be a key feature of any brief we at The Sharper Image would feature in. If your association works with community spirit, there is now a critical point in how you communicate with your members as the mediums of contact change.
